"MOZART IN COLOR"

The New Album By TKG

Album Review and article By Adriana Rubio

“Mozart in Color” is the new album by TKG, the brothers’ trio band from Athens, Greece. A magical album with a unique sound going from classical to electro-ambient-rock music, a tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the creation of new songs inspired by Mozart’s greatest compositions while appreciating his music through a prism.

Guitar virtuoso Theodore Kalantzakos said:

“We have composed Mozart in Color, in the same way we would make a new rainbow using the colors of a prism.
Mozart is undoubtedly a musical genius who has moved and influenced countless artists. We are not an exception. Firstly as listeners and then as composers, we found ourselves on the other side of his talent’s prism, to meet this wonderful rainbow that Mozart reserves to anyone who gets deeper into his work. We have used this rainbow, as an invaluable treasure, as a palette to re-mix the colors into a new music painting”.

“Mozart in Color” is a 9 tracks album leading the listener to a variety of musical climax without losing the essence of keeping the classical style intact. The album starts with an ambient “Intro” to situate the listener into a thrilling place pretty similar to those found in action chasing-movie-scenes, amazingly created for the opening of an outstanding music painting album. It gets even better with the Green track 1 based on Mozart Symphony N° 40.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is considered one of the greatest composers of all time. His music presents an audacious form of expression and very often has been found intricate and dissonant (in musical terms), so this requires high technical mastery to perform it as well as having a clear understanding of orchestra’s instruments.

I applaud musicians TKG trio brothers band Theodore, Loukas and Nick Kalantzakos not only for their musical talent but the confidence to compose and play through the colors of Mozart’s most notorious compositions.

And while going through the tracks, the listener will find a wide range of exquisite sounds brilliantly performed by Nick Kalantzakos on synth and followed by the creative drumming of Loukas Kalantzakos who can play the strongest beat - hits and then turn to a jazzier counter - tempo drummer creating extreme chasing atmospheres without losing the classical essence of Mozart compositions. My favorite tracks in this regard are the “Intro”, “Green”, “Orange” and “Blue”.

“Mozart in Color” is by far the greatest creation by TKG. Their music palette counts with one of the brightest prisms in the field of experimental - ambient - electro - rock, guitar virtuoso Theodore Kalantzakos on fretless guitar, electric and synth guitars, along with a cretan lyra and a cello.

Theodore’s experience working with orchestras in previous compositions for studio recordings and live shows (Rudolph Shenker Guitarist for Scorpions) as both arranger and composer has given him enough encouragement to lead “Mozart in Color”.

2.  Green (based on Symphony No. 40)
3.  Orange (based on Serenade No.13 for strings)

"THEODORE KALANTZAKOS"

LEADING THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
WITH TALENT AND HARD WORK

In January of 2015 Guitar Virtuoso Theodore Kalantzakos from TKG was Guitarist of the month on this Blog! And three years later he delights us all with a number of outstanding concerts as he and the band continue to grow at full speed.

Theodore is the leader of an amazing trio brothers’ band from Athens, Greece. I had the opportunity to interview him and talk about the band’s musical projects and releases on several occasions. And from time to time I also say hello to the band’s drummer Loukas Kalantzakos who plays the best combinations of “tempo-touches” without losing the beat power.

It really is a band where talent is right there, you just can feel it while the music transports you to incredible places as they dive into ambient jazz and cinematic sounds. However, there’s a solid metal element with a key presence of progressive-experimental rock in many of the band’s compositions as they let creativity flow during the songwriting process. Keyboardist Nick Kalantzakos is without a doubt a very important piece for the experimental-ambient part.

Now, three years after being Guitarist of the month on this Blog, Theodore Kalantzakos had the opportunity to jam with International acclaimed Guitarist Steve Vai after a guitar seminar which was part of the Alien Guitar Secrets Master Class Tour on March 20, 2018 at the Art Music School Fakanas in Athens, Greece.

And on July 16, 2018 they had the Scorpions “Once in a life time” show; with the Athens State Orchestra, Live at Kallimarmaro, Athens, Greece.

They joined the Athens State Orchestra; Theodore was in charge of coordinating all the electric instruments to open the show playing some of Scorpions best compositions (as arranged for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000).

“Guitarist Rudolf Schenker played “Hurricane” with us; it was the last composition of our opening act. This was the second time I had the chance to be on stage with Rudolf Schenker… actually the first, but there is a virtual one too!!!”

In 2014, Theodore Kalantzakos arranged Rudolf Schenker’s “Love is the Answer” for the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. It was a Philippos Pliatsikas (popular Greek singer) & Prague Philharmonic Orchestra show at Odeon of Herodes Atticus that recorded live and released by EMI.

“Aside from arranging all the compositions, I played the guitars too. Rudolf had sent us a video of him which was projecting while we were playing live!”

Here is a video https://youtu.be/G-L4Q-s6lNw from the live show and this is the live recording https://youtu.be/eINgY7-fdoA .

Theodore and his band TKG Group have a new full-length album ready to be released titled “Mozart in Color”.  The band will present some compositions of the upcoming at one of the most beautiful theatres in Greece.

“We're going to present some compositions of our upcoming album "Mozart in Color" at one of the most beautiful ancient theatres, the "Herodes Atticus Odeon", on September 21 and 22 as opening act for Prague Philharmonic orchestra”.

As you can see Theodore Kalantzakos and his band TKG Group are firmly focused on the road to success which can be achieved only with talent, hard work and perseverance.

Kudos to him and the band! And thank you so much as always for being in touch! You guys ROCK!

“R.I.P ALEJANDRO AVINO”

MANAGER OF ROCK BAND KAMIKAZE PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 56
7/2/1962 – 9/3/2018

Alejandro Avino went on vacations with his family to Viña Del Mar in Chile three weeks ago. Avino had a heart stroke and was immediately hospitalized for treatment in a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Naval Hospital.

Alejandro was in a medical induced coma during two weeks while awaiting cardiac surgery. He was on the surgery table for several hours on March 7th, and although the procedure was successful; an acute renal failure occurred. Doctors and nurses did their best to revert the kidney failure with dialysis but a septic shock finished the battle on Friday, March 9th, 2018.

Alejandro Avino was an amazing human being, a music fan and singer with a special passion for Rock and Roll and had such a unique talent for music management

KAMIKAZE
He was the manager of well known rock band “Kamikaze” in 1992; and worked very hard for the band’s third album release which was presented in a Buenos Aires Theatre, a sold out gig, amongst some other live shows on TV, press conferences and radio interviews plus touring. Alejandro Avino was also the manager of rock band “La Nave”.

LA NAVE
On a more personal note, I met Alejandro Avino 28 years ago. We were good friends and shared the same passion for rock music. I witnessed the stressful rock managing work and saw him exhausted many times, but he kept going and going.

In 1993 my daughter was born and he was the godfather. I have no words to express how we feel…

I want to thank journalist Claudia Pizarro from Valparaiso Chile who helped us in desperate times when blood donors were needed for the open heart surgery. She quickly made the blood donor call public. Thanks so much Claudia, it means a lot.
